Ground isolator power strip1/3/2024 The digital noise occurs when Reaper is open and selected, and I either click on something in Reaper, move my mouse, or play files. Yes, the loud clicks are my mouse the rapid, softer clicks are me adjusting the pot on the Mixcube. I am beginning to get to the stage (if the noise is audible behind programme) where I cannot suggest any more other than just trying things at random such as usb isolators, different connection arrangements, getting rid of all those power transformers/conditioners lifting screens at one end of speaker or interface cables etc. (I have no idea where those gain pots are in those speaker electronic circuits!) The fact it changes (reduces) as the gain pots on the speakers are sound up could just be differences in impedances. There will always be noise, it's a fact of life, but it is the relative level that is critical. Can you comment or do a recording with music playing and then that noise - without changing any gain settings. Especially as you mention that your recording is via a condensor mic with gain cranked well up suggests that the troublesome noise is actually quite low level and ought to maybe be acceptablly low compared to 'programme'. How does the noise compare to wanted audio. I can hear both hum and higher frequency digital noise that changes (as well as general unchanging noise). I assume the clicks are you changing gain or your mouse? No other transformers used except the power transformer that came with the audio interface. I bought the Furman power conditioner just to make sure that I wouldn't be dealing with power/noise issues. I soldered them myself, made sure not to have any cold joints, tested continuity w/ multimeter, then wiggled the joints to check for intermittent connections. Power conditioner, computer, VDU, audio interface, HS7s on = use-dependent noiseĪll audio cables are fully balanced on both ends. Power conditioner, computer, VDU, audio interface on = no noise Power conditioner, computer, VDU on = no noise Power conditioner & computer on = no noise Does dissed mean turned off? If so, then: I just got the noise going, then unplugged the VDU unfortunately, the noise is still there. It's not continuous, which is what I would expect from a transformer. It also stops if I disconnect the USB, but I-perhaps incorrectly-assume all sound would stop with a disconnected USB. The noise stops when the HS7s are off once turned on, the noise level doesn't change when I change the gain. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me. "Sorry, not doubting what you write, just trying to understand what might be going on." Is there anything obvious that I'm overlooking? Should I go ahead and buy the Intona? The Intona isolator seems to be preferred by others. Use a USB isolator to isolate audio interface from computer. TRIAL #1 : Used an extension power strip plugged into bank A to power all of the above components.īank A: computer, computer monitor, and audio interface I rearranged the components to see if noise would stop, but no luck. The Furman power conditioner has three isolated banks. The noise is also transmitted to amps when reamping, but I've omitted this equipment for now to make solution easier. The noise level isn’t affected by increasing gain on the monitors, nor when increasing gain on RME’s TotalMix software. There is a high-pitched noise that occurs when moving the mouse or the drives are being accessed not constant noise. Three studio monitors (two Yamaha HS7, one Avantone Mixcube) – balanced connections to audio interface Can someone help me understand this issue?Ĭomputer (Intel i7 8700K, ASUS Z370-A motherboard, three Samsung 850 EVO solid-state drives, Windows 10, Reaper)Īudio interface (RME UCX) - connected to computer with USB 2.0, separate power transformer Hi! I think I may have a ground loop but I'm still a novice when it comes to computer hardware and software.
