Zen buddhist meditation12/30/2023 ![]() ![]() The breathing in zen meditation is usually through the nose with calm, slow breaths and an emphasis on the exhalation. The hands are held in a mudra known as the cosmic mudra, with the left hand supported in the right and the tips of the thumbs touching. Sometimes the yogi will face a wall to avoid distraction. However, the eyes are only softly open with no focused gaze. The body should be upright and well-balanced, neither too tense or too relaxed.įor zen meditation, the eyes are often kept open to help the yogi stay awake and alert. It is also possible to practice sitting on a chair or kneeling in seiza. Residing in the Heart - not thinking, not doing – just Being.Zen meditation is traditionally practiced in the full lotus or the half lotus position, supported by a thick round cushion called a zafu to elevate the hips and allow the knees to touch the floor. In moving forward, we remind the membership that the Board continues its commitment to providing a safe environment to all. As part of the terms of that settlement, all parties have acknowledged that the settlement constitutes a compromise of disputed claims that is not to be construed as an admission of liability on the part of any party. That litigation has now been resolved in a global settlement of all parties. Subsequently, two of the women who participated in the investigation filed litigation in the San Diego Superior Court against the Zen Center and Mr. Bayda and presented a summary of the investigation’s findings to the ZCSD membership at the Zendo on November 2, 2019. After Faith Trust Institute delivered its findings and analysis to the Board, the Board dismissed Mr. Faith Trust Institute, at the board’s direction, invited everyone having an interest in the investigation to participate. In July 2019, the Board of Trustees received actual claims of sexual abuse by Ezra Bayda, and it immediately suspended him from teaching and retained Faith Trust Institute to undertake an independent investigation and analysis of the claims being presented. In addition, the Board of Trustees has always endeavored to provide a safe environment for every person attending the Zendo.
